Global, April 27, 2022 — Today, Margaret Atwood and Disco announced a first-of-its-kind NFT project that will launch as an extension of the Practical Utopias: An Exploration of the Possible virtual live learning experience hosted by Atwood in partnership with Disco, the platform to build virtual live learning empires. The NFTs will be co-created by the learners as visual representations of real-world solutions to real-world problems they will be exploring together over the course of the Practical Utopias learning experience and minted on the energy efficient Tezos blockchain.

The co-created work will be combined with original contributions from Atwood herself and minted on Tezos as a special 1-of-1 NFT anthology to be auctioned off in late 2022.

The NFTs will be incorporated as an output of Atwood’s Practical Utopias, a virtual live learning experience where learners collectively design practical solutions to tackle some of humanity’s most pressing challenges.

As an introduction to the course and to dive deeper into the ways in which Web3 will shape the world around us, Tezos blockchain co-founder, Kathleen Breitman, will join Atwood and Disco co-founder and Co-CEO Candice Faktor, for a live virtual panel discussion on April 28. Margaret Atwood and Disco chose Tezos for this one-of-a-kind project as the blockchain uses a more energy efficient approach to secure its network, allowing it to operate with minimal energy consumption and a low carbon footprint. NFT minting on Tezos uses up energy similar to that of a tweet.

Disco gets the importance for Web3 and the need for creators to own their own community, revenue, and brand. NFT certificates, wallet integration, and crypto payment protocols are all on the product roadmap for 2022.
