‍

Migrating your learning platform to an all-inclusive solution may be better for business in the long run, but it doesn’t make the shift any easier — especially if you have to do so manually. The transition can be difficult for both admins and community members.

At Disco, we understand that switching platforms can be labor intensive and costly, that’s why we have intentionally built features to make platform migration a seamless experience. Whether you’re moving from a community platform like Circle or Mighty Networks or an LMS like Teachable, Kajabi or Thinkific, or piecing together multiple tools to operate your business, our all-in-one learning community platform has all the tools you need to make switching an efficient and worthwhile experience so you can focus on delivering exceptional experiences and growing your learning community.

7 Disco Features Designed to Support Your Migration Journey

If your community is already hosted on another platform or you’re using a suite of tools for different aspects of your business, communication is key. Use the following features to share the migration plan with your community and create an onboarding workflow so your members know how to access all of the good stuff Disco has to offer.

Send Bulk Invites

If you’re switching learning management systems and plan on hosting your community and learning experiences elsewhere, you have to alert the community! Import a CSV file with your members’ first names, last names, and email addresses from your previous learning management system or filing system into Disco.

From there, you can make invites to Disco easy by creating branded invites, in bulk, that you can send to your entire community or email list to begin the onboarding process and start introducing members to a new platform.

Disco’s email capabilities don’t end at sending invites to new members of your learning community. You can use it to send email reminders for events and create follow-ups for feedback once it’s over. Disco customers Simon Engelke and Amandine Bressand of BatteryMBA love this feature:

‍“The main thing for me is really about notifications and reminders. I think that's a massive time sink. To always have these regular scheduled emails to send—follow ups is the key, right? We really want to make sure that people don't forget about sessions.”

‍
Rather than relying on your email service provider and creating yet another addition to your tech stack, leverage Disco to do the heavy lifting of creating bulk email sends community-wide.

Create and duplicate courses

If you offer your learning community a selection of cohort-based and self-paced courses, Disco is the solution you need to deliver incredible learning experiences and migrate users onto our platform with zero friction.

Not only are you able to create and upload curriculum directly into Disco, you can duplicate courses with a single click to support multiple cohorts or launch new programs. This includes creating or migrating existing courses and resources, like downloadable content, video content, e-books, and more.

If courses are a new feature for your community, our team can advise you on the best way to launch the experience and create solutions for as many cohorts as your team can handle.

Customize your branding

Use Disco’s custom branding features to add your logo, brand colors, images, and other custom brand identifiers to welcome members, new and old, into a community that is uniquely yours. This feature is unlocked at the Organization pricing plan.

Custom branding is important in order to resonate with members, but it can also be the foundation to developing more intricate brand details like your voice and tone as well as iconography within your community.

“It was hard to find a platform for our learning community that aligned with our goals of live interactive learning AND kept us, the user, at the center of their mission until we found Disco. It feels like they made it specifically for us! It is easy to say that we would not have been able to grow as fast as a school if it weren’t for Disco” says Hannah Baker, co-founder of The Fountain Institute.

Allowing admins to create a community on Disco that is unique to them is just one way of keeping users at the center of our mission to create the most comprehensive platform for founders and operators of micro schools, bootcamps, and academies, as well as larger learning communities.

Create Live video integrations

With Disco’s deep Zoom integration, you’ll be able to easily host live events, on video, within your community. You can invite your entire membership, select groups, or create more intimate subgroups for impactful learning.

These types of events include:

  • Roundtables and panels
  • Webinars
  • Masterminds
  • Event Series
  • Breakout sessions
  • Micro-discussions
  • Events for cohort-based courses (like live sessions or expert interviews)
  • Events for self-paced courses (like office hours with instructors)

For learning communities like Dribbble’s Product Design Course, this is particularly helpful for creating smaller groups amongst hundreds of students:

‍“Disco has allowed us to build a scalable education offering at Dribbble,” says Program Manager Madeleine Sava. The subgroups function lets us break the hundred of students who enroll in each cohort into mentorship groups, giving each student a personal, hands-on & intimate learning experience.”

Rather than having to find additional solutions and integrations with other tools, Disco and Zoom work together seamlessly to keep your community on track and on video.

Integrate seamlessly with slack

Forget tricky integrations or faulty connections; it takes just a few clicks to integrate your existing Slack channel into your Disco community.

The conversations may take place on Slack, but you can run the rest of your learning experience on Disco and send people there with easy-to-create push notifications and automated event reminders right in Slack.

We simplify these pesky operational tasks so you can get back to focusing on creating enriching learning experiences for your members.

Automate with zapier

Disco eases much of that operational intensity by integrating with Zapier to help automate aspects of your learning community as you move over to a new platform.

“Running a program can be incredibly operationally intensive. With Disco there are so many parts that now have a much more product-guided and product-led experience than what we were previously doing” says Ben Plummer, Sr. Learning Experience Designer of On Deck.

If you use Zapier to automate your marketing, legal, sales, or other functions of your business, integrate it with Disco to host the same automation functions and, overall, save 100s of hours on operations.

Work with a team of rockstars

Whether you’re a team of one or have an entire staff to support operating and scaling your learning community, Disco takes the time to understand your business and what you hope to accomplish.

Nafis Ahmed, Entrepreneurship Manager of YSpace, works closely with Disco’s support staff to establish a presence on the platform and grow their business:

“Disco has allowed us to scale our programming seamlessly with their highly intuitive platform, and an excellent support staff working with us through all of our needs.”
